Part of the Naxi origin myth, written in native pictographic script, with Chinese translation below. This picture was taken in a Naxi temple, one wall of which was adorned with the text.

As far as I can make out, the Chinese text says something like:
[Top:] Excerpted from the Naxi Dongba classic text Chong Ban Tu. The text translates: The Esteemed Li Si boldly declared "The nine brothers who opened Heaven are my fathers;

[Right, not in photo:] the seven sisters who opened Earth are my mothers ...

[Bottom:] ... three cow's feet eaten in one bite, but he did not choke! Three pecks of grain eaten in one swallow, but he did not gag!

[Right, not in photo:] The great river cleansed his palate, so it did not feel irritated.
