The elderly women of Lijiang despised being photographed, and would turn away if they saw a tourist about to take a photo. Despite my inclination to respect their wishes, my desire for at least one picture was stronger. I took this shot unobtrusively with the camera at my hip; until it was developed I had no idea if the woman would even be in the frame.
